Notes From the Week

Coffee pouring into a blush mug with the words Notes From The Week

I unexpectedly had my granddaughter for the day last Sunday, so we played with clay, a magnetic drawing board and a bunny matching game, went to Trader Joe’s, stopped at Cane’s for chicken nuggets because she asked for them and Chick-fil-A was closed, swam and had dinner outside with her and her mom.

By the end of the night, I was completely exhausted. I watched exactly one episode of Lioness and went to bed.

What I didn’t do was any of my usual Sunday preparation for the week ahead.

So I entered Monday behind and tired before the week had really started. It took more effort than usual to get organized, and that feeling followed me through much of the week.

The Steward Edit occupied early mornings and evenings.

A dinner party I had been planning was canceled when another couple in our friend group decided to have dinner at their house instead. I was disappointed. The bright side was that I wouldn’t be cooking.

Although that did lead to a question.

Do our friends not like it when I cook?

Questions seem to be contagious at our house this week.

Thursday evening I drove to Pilates and couldn’t find parking anywhere near the studio. Eventually I gave up and went home. By Thursday, I really wanted that hour.

Saturday started with a massage and getting my hair done. I came home for a little while before heading to the dinner that replaced the one I had planned.

A Saturday morning massage and freshly styled hair may have been exactly what this week needed.

Dinner helped too.

Their home was lovely, the weather was beautiful and we ate outside. The food was great, the company was even better and they were wonderful hosts.

I had been disappointed when the dinner I planned was canceled. But sitting outside last night, enjoying good food, good conversation and someone else’s hospitality, I wasn’t thinking about the dinner that didn’t happen.

I was enjoying the one that did.

And for the record, I don’t think it had anything to do with my cooking.
