About The Steward Edit

The Steward Edit began with a question I kept asking myself: How do I care for everything in my life and make sure my life includes the experiences I want?

Of course stewardship means taking care of what matters: the people I love, my home, my health, my work and the responsibilities that come with all of it. I kept coming back to the same issue. I got good at taking care of everything around me and still wasn't living the life I wanted. I was living a life, just not the one I wanted.

I have always loved my family and taken my responsibilities seriously. But for years I spread myself so thin taking care of everyone else that my kids and my partner got what was left over. I have done a lot of work in these areas and still do. Some of the hardest work ever. This I have changed.

I also don't want to keep postponing the things I want to experience in this life until I'm less busy. That would be perfect but it's not happening.

All Things Life

I run a business. I love my work and I'm ambitious, but work is only part of the story. I love being home with the people I love and my canine and feline children. I like going places and experiencing new things. I like having fun. I focus on my health and how I'm aging. There's still so much I want to learn and experience. The Steward Edit grew from there.

I'm writing from where I am now, midlife. I've made decisions I'm proud of and others I'd make differently today. I've changed my mind about many things. I've lost people and animals I love. I've started over more than once and know my choices put me there. I feel blessed. I've had a good life, even with the hard parts, and I'm grateful for it.

I used to think there might be a time when life made more sense. I don't really think that anymore. I'd rather remain open and curious about life and what it brings.

I'm naturally serious, probably too serious sometimes. I'm learning to embrace the unserious too. I may have something to say about getting older. I might want to share my favorite sunscreen or something random. There are things I love simply because I love them.

Voices of The Steward Edit

I don't want The Steward Edit to contain only my point of view. I hope people with different perspectives will contribute as this publication grows. We can learn from the women who have come before us and those who come after us. I especially want women sharing what we've learned with each other. They don't need to sound like me. I don't want them to. I don't know yet who all of those people will be. I like that. I hope they find The Steward Edit.

What Stays, What Changes

By this point in life, we have a sense of what works and what doesn't, and some things we do just because we've always done them that way. If it works, great. If it doesn't, let it go or find another way. I'm learning how to edit my life and focus on what really matters.

The Steward Edit explores all of it. Taking care of what matters without forgetting to live it.
