Another Option

For years, I have been trying to find a mouthwash dispenser that actually works.
I have tried more of them than anyone should probably admit to buying. Inexpensive ones, expensive ones, pretty ones and ones that appeared perfectly functional. It never seemed to matter. Eventually the pump would stick, leak or stop working properly, and I would find myself looking for another one.
I finally stopped looking.
I love beautiful glassware, and recently I found a vintage Italian decanter on Etsy that came with a set of small glasses. I bought it, filled the decanter with mouthwash and put two of the glasses beside it.
It works perfectly and I enjoy looking at it.
I particularly love pieces where you can see and feel the quality. The glass, the weight, the craftsmanship. There are things you pick up and immediately know were made well.
After all those years of trying to find a better mouthwash dispenser, it makes me laugh that the best one I have ever had isn't a mouthwash dispenser at all.
I wondered why it had taken me so long to look somewhere else.
In my career, if what is in front of me isn't working, I don't assume those are my only choices. I look for another one.
I haven't always done that as readily in my personal life.
There have been times when I kept trying to choose among the options in front of me instead of considering that there might be another option entirely.
It is a surprising thought to come from something sitting on my bathroom counter, and one I will be reminded of every day when I use the decanter.
